Traditional healer David Muzenda from Seke, Zimbabwe, allegedly shot dead his wife Eunice Kombo, after being incensed by indecent pictures which he discovered in her phone after she sent them to her boyfriend.

Muzenda said in his warned and cautioned statement before Marondera magistrate Mr Shane Kubonera, that he had a dispute with Kombo over the alleged boyfriend, but denied allegations that he shot her.

He said after discovering that she was cheating, he told her that they should end their relationship.

"She then attempted to throw herself in a well, but was restrained by my father," said Muzenda, in his statement to the court.

"She later shot herself with my gun."

Muzenda was remanded in custody to June 6 over the incident which occurred on Tuesday and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

He was represented by Mrs Tendai Magaya-Mandizvidza and Ms Gloria Sithole of Magaya-Mandizvidza Legal Practitioners.

Ms Sithole said Muzenda had complaints against the police that he was intimidated and threatened while in custody.

"Your worship, at one point our client was denied legal representation," she said.

"The police even threatened to shoot him in an attempt to make him confess. They also detained him without a warrant of further detention which is against the new Constitution."

Mr Kubonera ordered the State to investigate the allegations against the police.

Prosecutor Mr Shingirai Nyengere alleged that Muzenda had a misunderstanding with Kombo after discovering that she was sending pictures of herself with no clothes on to the suspected lover.

He said Muzenda produced his pistol and shot Kombo once on the left side ear lobe, killing her on the spot.
