A five-member European Union Council on Tourism and Trade delegation is this week expected to present to Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe two tourism accolades won the southern African country, state media reported Monday.
The Herald said EUCTT president Anthony Caragea would officially hand over the award for Best Tourism Destination for 2014 and Favourite Cultural Destination to Mugabe at State House in Harare on Wednesday.
The awards follow the successful co-hosting of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) conference with Zambia last August.
The country was also selected because of its community-based tourism and for giving tourists an opportunity to explore nature as well as presentation of outstanding historical and cultural heritage in the form of the Great Zimbabwe Monument in Masvingo.
The destination award was previously won by Turkey in 2008, United Arab Emirates in 2009 and 2011, South Korea in 2010, Trinidad and Tobago in 2012 and Laos in 2013.
