WASHINGTON - MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai says he is entitled to stay in a Highlands, Harare, mansion he occupied when he was prime minister of Zimbabwe despite calls by critics for him to find alternative accommodation.

Tsvangirai told Studio 7 in an exclusive interview that nothing had since changed towards the status of the house even if he was no longer in the government.

He said: "It is a property I identified, I requested for some money to buy. I was given the option to buy it if I had the money. They (government) had not made any evaluation. What is so controversial about the former prime minister occupying a house?"

Critics say he should vacate the mansion since he is currently fighting to unseat President Robert Mugabe's Zanu PF party.

A local paper recently reported that the former trade unionist risked losing the house for allegedly failing to service a $3 million loan secured from the government when he was still the prime minister.
