Tsvangirai says ZIMASSET is an MDC-T product

MDC T President Morgan Tsvangirai says that the MDC-T drafted the controversial economic blue print ZIMASSET which the ZANU-PF government is running in the country.

Speaking in a Voice Of America's Studio 7 interview on Wednesday night, Tsvangirai claimed that ZANU-PF plagiarised the ZIMASSET blue print from the medium term plans that were drafted by minister from his MDC T during the days of the inclusive government. Tsvangirai said this in a bid to explain that the ruling ZANU-PF government will never come up with a credible economic plan.

Tsvangirai's statement clearly contradicts his previous stance that ZIMASSET was a hopeless economic program which will never turn around the economic fortunes of the country.

"ZANU-PF plagiarised ZIMASSET from the medium term plan written by our ministers and so they can't claim credit on it," said Tsvangirai

The Medium Term Plans 2011 - 2015 were produced by then MDC-T Finance Minister Tendai Biti and Minister of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion Trade Elton Mangoma who was later replaced by Tapiwa Mashakada who endorsed the plans. Both Mangoma and Biti have since fallen out of favour with Morgan Tsvangirai's main stream MDC-T.

Tsvangirai is on good record of always castigating the ZIMASSET economic blue print as a failure by ZANU-PF and his latest statement may just be causing confusion on his stance on the economic blue print.

"The clueless Zanu-PF leadership is peddling a policy programme that it is calling ZimAsset when to all intends and purposes, it should actually be called ZimLiability," said Tsvangirai in his Christmas Day address at Harvest House at the end of last year.

Vice President Mujuru has meanwhile been touring the country's provinces promoting the economic blue print and blaming the MDC formations for sabotaging the economic plan. The difficulties that the ZANU-PF government has been facing in implementing the economic plan have seen the party reversing its stance on its indeginisation policy which is blocking direct foreign investment which should be the backbone of the programme.
