Sekeramayi expected home today

The body of Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chief elections officer Mr Lovemore Chipunza Sekeramayi who died on Wednesday in Lesotho is expected home today, The Herald reported.

Mr Sekeramayi (67) had gone to Lesotho to attend a meeting of chief elections officers for electoral management bodies in the Sadc region. His brother Mr Naison Sekeramayi, yesterday said a post-mortem was conducted in Lesotho.

The body would lie in state at his Chisipite residence before going to Marova Village in Chihota for burial.

Born on May 24, 1947, Mr Sekeramayi was the chief elections officer for Zec from 2007 until the time of his death.

A graduate of Social Sciences in UK, he was one of the first few senior civil servants in the newly independent Zimbabwe. He joined the civil service in 1982.

Mr Sekeramayi worked as district administrator (Makonde), provincial administrator (Mashonaland Central), deputy registrar general (Administration and Finance) and deputy secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet.

Mourners are gathered at house Number 31 Hindhead Avenue, Chisipite, Harare.

He is survived by his wife Esther and three grandchildren.
