The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists(ZUJ),  says it joins the nation in celebrating the life of "one of Zimbabwe's most renowned personalities and Former Information Minister and journalist Comrade Nathan Shamuyarira who passed on last night at West End Clinic in Harare."

Shamuyarira died at the West End Clinic in Harare last night after having been admitted on and off "for some time"

ZUJ Secretary General Foster Dongozi  said the Union acknowledges the role that Shamuyarira played in developing the media industry in Zimbabwe first as being the pioneer and torch bearer of black journalists before the country attained its independence.

"The late Information Minister contributed immensely to journalism by pioneering the formal training of Zimbabwean journalists after independence and the formation of ZUJ," he said.

"Further to that, Comrade Shamuyarira played a critical and supportive role which led to the formation of ZUJ. Comrade Shamuyarira was also instrumental in the formation of Zimbabwe information services and critical player in the determination of developmental information particularly from rural areas.

"It was through such valuable contribution that journalists in Zimbabwe managed to come under one umbrella body, ZUJ pursuit of professional and ethical journalism. He leaves behind a rich legacy for the young generation to emulate."
