The President Robert Mugabe has lambasted the Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Professor Jonathan Moyo for being divisive and for what he called attempting to divide the party from within.
Comparing the late veteran revolutionary and national hero Dr Nathan Shamuyarira who once served as Minister of Information to the current holder of the portfolio, President Mugabe criticised Minister Moyo for being counter-revolutionary and retrogressive by employing the services of journalists who were fierce critics of the Zanu-PF government and its policies.
It emerged that in the recent politburo meeting held Wednesday, most politburo members expressed displeasure with the role of the state media which they say is now in the hands of journalists who were peddling the regime change agenda in the country.
The President said Zanu-PF is a party of simple people who do not need intellectuals to cheat them.
The President said Shamuyarira was an honest journalist who stood for and articulated the views of the people in the papers that he published.
Thousands of Zimbabweans converged at the Shamuyarira family home in Borrowdale to pay their condolences and mourn a man some have dubbed the doyen of Zimbabwean journalism.
The President said he knew the late Shamuyarira from the 60s and developed to become friends in the revolution.
Shamuyarira will be laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre on Saturday.
