Cop robs a soldier of $600

A police officer stationed at Chivi outpost in Masvingo allegedly robbed a soldier of $600.
The police officer, Constable Herbert Rukatya, 25, allegedly robbed the soldier Martin Zavave, 23, who was on his way to pay bride price (lobola) in Chivi.
Rukatya who appeared in court before Tinashe Langton Ndokera facing theft charges, pleaded not guilty.
The incident which has since become the talk of Chivi occurred on May 24 at around 11.30PM near Chivi business centre.
The state represented by Nixon Chamisa alleges that on May 24, Zavave who is based at Four Brigade in Masvingo, travelled to Chivi to pay bride price.
He then decided to drink beer at a local bar where he met Rukatya who was in the company of his friends.
Zavave then bought Rukatya beer until the two got drunk and he decided to go home.
On the way home, Rukatya and three other suspects allegedly stalked Zavave and attacked him from behind.
The gang proceeded to assault him with booted feet and fists before robbing him of $600 which was in his wallet, the court heard.
Zavave later reported the robbery to the police leading to Rukatya's arrest
Rukatya was remanded to Thursday on free bail.
