A 29-YEAR-OLD Chitungwiza resident, Swedias Chirenda, appeared in court on Monday charged with assaulting Harare magistrate Elijah Makomo, who he allegedly accused of giving him an unfavourable ruling nine years ago.
Chirenda of Zengeza 3 denied the assault charge when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Lazarus Murendo.
Circumstances into the matter were that on June 1 this year, Chirenda met Makomo at a bar in Zengeza 5, and allegedly accused him of convicting him for a crime he had not committed.
Chirenda allegedly punched the court official on the neck and on the ear before the complainant's colleagues intervened and stopped the fight.
Chirenda was remanded in custody to tomorrow for trial.
