Commuters in Harare have welcomed the introduction of train buses in the capital, saying if more are introduced the number of accidents will be reduced as the capital's roads will be decongested.
This follows a proposal by the government to ban or phase out commuter omnibuses commonly referred to as kombis while re-introducing conventional buses.
Commuters who spoke to the ZBC expressed optimism if more train buses are introduced, they will help decongest the roads and in the process reduce the number of accidents.
With the train buses being operated by individuals, others said ZUPCO should take advantage of the growing demand for conventional buses as commuter bus drivers have become notorious for recklessness.
Some commuter omnibus drivers however welcomed the coming of the train buses saying they are ready for competition.
A supervisor with the company that has introduced the train buses, Mr. Tobias Mudzimurema, said the use of mature and qualified drivers is the way to go in saving lives on the roads.
Most of the accidents involving commuter buses in urban centres have been attributed to human error such as speeding and recklessness.
