Jockeying for positions in the MDC T is gathering momentum ahead of the beleaguered party's congress in October, as party bigwigs fight to take over positions left vacant by the breakaway faction led by Tendai Biti.

MDC-T insiders said Tsvangirai is likely to face a challenge from Warren Park MP Elias Mudzuri for the presidency.

Sources say Mudzuri has stuck to his guns to contest Tsvangirai whilst organizing Secretary Nelson Chamisa is likely to face party spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora for the position of secretary general position.

Murisi Zwizwai is vying for organizing secretary position Obert Gutu and Jameson Timba will battle for information secretary.

Those guaranteed to retain their current positions include Tapiwa Mashakada deputy secretary general, Lovemore Moyo national chairman and Morgen Komichi vice chair.

Mwonzora said plans to hold the congress are underway.
