A married woman who claimed maintenance from a boyfriend stunned the Zaka magistrates court when she said she was very confident that the child belonged to her boyfriend and not her husband because the husband could not sire children (anofaya mablank).
Svodai Mugwira from Ndanga Business Centre claimed maintenance from a boyfriend while living together with her husband.
On 6 January 2014, Mugwira applied for maintenance at Zaka magistrates court against Simbarashe Chokuona (64) claiming that the elderly man was the biological father of a son she gave birth to in 2011 and should maintain his child.
The maintenance order was granted by the courts and Simbarashe was ordered to pay US$50 every month for the upkeep of the 3-year-old boy.
Chokuona produced a birth certificate for the child in court which was re-registered this year. The child was born on 2 may 2011. The birth certificate was first registered on 21 July 2011 and the name of the child's father on the certificate was Phinias Gavaya.
Asked by the magistrate if the details entered on the birth certificate were correct, Svodai Mugwira agreed but claimed that Chokuona was the biological father of the child at the centre of the storm. She pulled a shocker when she told the court that her husband can not sire children.
Magistrate blasted Mugwira and labeled her a disgrace and confused woman who goes around sleeping with many men while married. Chokuona was however advised to claim the maintenance he had paid to Mugwira after magistrate Mutandwa revoked the maintenance order.
