'Gumbura could have raped more than 100 women'

Jailed RMG End Time Message Church leader Robert Martin Gumbura could have raped more than 100 women amid revelations that more women were now opening up on their sexual abuse experiences, a Cabinet minister has said.

Women's Affairs, Gender and Community Development Minister Oppah Muchinguri yesterday said more women were coming to her narrating how they were abused by Gumbura, who was slapped with a 40-year jail term for rape.

"I have come to learn from my trustees that Gumbura has not only raped and abused his 11 wives but has raped more than 100 women from his church and (allegedly) killed some of their husbands," she said.

"Most of the women are now opening up to me about what Gumbura did to them, how they were sexually abused by their leader. They come to me in their numbers and tell me about their problems at the hands of Gumbura."

Minister Muchinguri said her ministry would launch a national campaign against rape on Thursday given the rising cases of rape being recorded everyday.

She said that more than 130 cases were being recorded every week.
