Taka Mnangagwa, son to Emmerson Mnangagwa the Minister of Defense, lost a Toyota Hilux twincab to 12 armed robbers who raided his gold mine in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe last Saturday night.

The gang that was travelling in two pick-up trucks also shot and seriously injured his Chinese business partner before they drove off.

Police confirmed the incident and said the Chinese was admitted at a local hospital in Harare where he was in a stable condition.

Sources yesterday said Taka Mnangagwa and the Chinese own a mining firm in UMP.

They said on Saturday night the robbers who were travelling in two pick-up trucks raided the mine before they took away the Toyota Hilux at gunpoint.

Officer Commanding Murehwa district Chief Superintendent Simon Mwatsikesimbe confirmed the incident.

Investigations are still in progress.

In March, the officer commanding Criminal Investigations Department Senior Assistant Commissioner Simon Nyathi, said they would contain heinous crimes such as armed robberies that nearly threatened the safety and security of people last year.

"It is the aforesaid support, compounded with tip offs from the law-abiding citizens that saw our success in raising the overall detection rate from 45 percent in the year 2009 to 52 percent in 2010," he said.
