A Nyanga man (38) has been arrested for raping a 73 year old woman after offering assistance to ferry water for her.
Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Enock Chishiri said Batsirai Charamba of Nhamburiko village under Chief Hata saw the old woman going to fetch water from a bore hall that was 2km away from her homestead.
He then convinced the granny to go back home and promised to bring the water for her. The complainant agreed and went home. Charamba later on brought the water to the granny's homestead and found her sitting outside her kitchen hut.
"He then persuaded her to get inside the house and forcibly removed her clothes and raped her once. She took a metal basin and struck him on the head," said Insp Chishiri.
The woman made a police report and the accused was arrested.
Inspector Enock Chishiri has urged young men to respect old women and not to take advantage of them.
