A CHITUNGWIZA woman yesterday approached the civil court seeking a protection order from her abusive husband who is the habit of assaulting her with a sjambok.

According to NewsDay, Doren Tafirenyika told Chitungwiza magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa that her husband of 19 years, Augustine Makata, insults and beats her because  she miscarried during her first pregnancy.

"He has a habit of spitting on my face and insults and beats me because I had a miscarriage on my first pregnancy," she said.

"He assaults me using a sjambok, bottles, or a pocket knife and phones his girlfriends in my presence."

Makata, however, denied the allegations, but conceded to keeping a sjambok and pocket knife in his car.

"I have never assaulted her. I wanted to strike her with the sjambok recently after a misunderstanding, but I missed her and hit our child instead," he said.

Magistrate Gofa granted Tafirenyika the protection order.
