Police vow to probe Baba Jukwa

Police have vowed to conduct thorough investigations into the Baba Jukwa Facebook page scandal, hours after the Sunday Mail editor, Edmund Kudzayi appeared at the Harare magistrates' court charged with terrorism, insurgency and banditry among others.
In a press release yesterday, spokesperson assistant commissioner Charity Charamba denied widespread media reports that the net might also close in on ministers and Members of Parliament who reportedly worked with Kudzayi on the Baba and Amai Jukwa Jukwa projects.
"The police wishes to inform the public that there are no Ministers targeted in the investigations.
"In fact ministers were targeted by Baba Jukwa. The most targeted minister was in fact Cde Saviour Kasukuwere, his wife and family," read the press statement.
The police said it is improper for the media to carry out stories that suggest any minister, parliamentarian, government official and members of the ruling party are being targeted.
"Actually, they were at the receiving end and were victims."
"Such publications which insinuate that certain ministers and parliamentarians are targeted are intended to throw confusion into the whole matter and solicit ministers and Zanu PF sympathy, in the process diluting the gravity of Kudzayi's case."
The Baba Jukwa Facebook page was a huge phenomenon in the run up to elections last year and targeted almost all ministers, senior government officials and service chiefs among others.
Although in the police statement yesterday, Charamba mentioned Kasukuwere by name, other ministers who became victims of Baba Jukwa's attacks are Didymus Mutasa, Obert Mpofu, Kembo Mohadi, Emmerson Mnangagwa, Sydney Sekeramayi, Nicholas Goche among others.
Almost all service chiefs were attacked on the Baba Jukwa page.
The Amai Jukwa page also caused consternation in Zanu PF by picking up individuals to attack among politicians and government officials.
Perhaps the most attacked was retired Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor, Gideon Gono, who had his mobile number and email addresses splashed on the page.
Baba Jukwa then went on to encroach into top government officials' privacies by publishing their mobile numbers and inviting the world to phone and attack them.
