Man beds, infects sister in-law with HIV

A 23-year-old security guard from Borrowdale Brooke who had consensual sex with his 14-year-old sister-in-law on several occasions resulting in him infecting her with HIV was on Friday sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The man whose name cannot be revealed to protect the identity of the teenager pleaded not guilty before Marondera magistrate Clever Tsikwa but was nailed due to overwhelming evidence on the matter.

In passing judgement, Tsikwa said the man bedded a minor when he was supposed to play a parental role as he was married to her sister.

He also said the accused committed a serious offence by infecting her with HIV which will see the complainant living with trauma for her entire life hence he deserved a custodial sentence.

According to court papers, on an unknown date to the prosecutor but in February last year, the accused proposed love to his 14-year-old sister-in-law to which she complied.

It is during the same month that the two started having sex.

The matter came to light in April this year when the juvenile fell sick and was taken to Over spill Clinic in Epworth for treatment. She was also tested for HIV with results showing she was positive.

Upon questioning, she revealed she had sex with her brother-in-law leading to the arrest of the accused.
