Mugabe mourns Father Dove

The late founder of Silveira House, Father John Dove has been described as God fearing and a man who worked for the emancipation of the black majority and stood for peace and justice for all.
Father Dove, who was 91, died early morning on Friday the 20th of June.
The President, Robert Mugabe and collegues who worked with the Priest, described his death a great loss to the Jesuits community and the country as a whole, as he was a God frearing man, humble in character and strong in his belief for justice for all.
Speaking during a memorial service of the late Priest, President Mugabe said he learnt with shock of Father Dove's death, adding that his works will always be treasured.
He challenged the centre to work with government through their civic education.
Catholic Bishops Council Head Priest, Father Fidelis Mukonori described the late Father Dove as a phenominal character always ready to work for development.
Father Dove was born in Britain on the 22nd of July 1922.
At the age of 17, he was recruited as a soldier and fought in India during World War II.
He joined the Jesuits in 1947 and was ordained priest in 1958.
He came to the then Rhodesia as a priest in 1960 and in 1964 he founded Silveira House and worked in different capacities for the church for 20 years before retiring.
Father Dove will be buried at Chishawasha Mission after a funeral mass on Monday, the 23rd of June at 10am.
