A GANG of female robbers is on the prowl targeting churches and unsuspecting congregants during prayer sessions, police warned yesterday.
In a statement national police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said the daring robbers pounced at a church in Kensington, Harare recently and stole valuables as congregants prayed.
"A group of women travelling in a get-away car stole a bag and later dumped it at another church with cash and other valuables missing," said Chief Supt Nyathi.
He said the gang would pounce on congregants while they are praying or singing.
Chief Supt Nyathi warned church members to be on the look-out for the notorious group and urged them to report to their nearest police station if they have information that may lead to the arrest of the gang.
"Church members must be wary of strangers sitting next to them while in church," the police chief said.
"Where possible, church leaders are urged to engage security people who will assist to monitor proceeding as the congregation sings, dances and prays."
