A Bulawayo woman, who was called by a prostitute to collect her husband's corpse at an apartment in the city where he had spent the night, yesterday said she suspected the lady of the night drugged her disabled spouse to extract semen.
Lizzy Lunga was testifying during an inquest into the death of her husband, Mazo Mugura (41) of Emganwini, who died on October 28 last year.
She said she arrived at Yolande Flats between Connaught and Masotsha Ndlovu along Robert Mugabe Way after Belinda Chikerema informed her that she had found Mugura outside the flat at around 0400hrs and had assisted him as a Good Samaritan.
"Up to today, I do not understand what the cause of death was. Belinda and company know what happened to my husband. I think they drugged or injected him to draw sperms," she said.
"When I found him he had changed, he was dark in complexion meaning that something had been done to him."
The widow told the court that her husband had one of his legs amputated and used crutches.
She said while she mourned with her sister-in-law who was in her company at the flat, Chikerema was visited by various men and appeared unmoved as she even watched television.
Lunga claimed Chikerema later changed the statement she made to the police and indicated she had been hired by her husband for her services.
In her testimony on Tuesday, Chikerema told the court that on October 28, last year, she was at a bar with her friend Eveline Wushe where they had gone to celebrate Dynamos' victory over Highlanders.
She said Mugura approached her and asked for her services for the night and they left together at around 2150hrs for her flat.
Chikerema said she realised the disabled man could not go up the stairs when they arrived and phoned the taxi driver to come back and assist her.
"I managed to get him to the bedroom and we slept. I had sexual intercourse with the now deceased once and he slept," she said.
"In the morning I observed he was snoring heavily and had some saliva coming from his mouth and I thought they were the after effects of drunkenness (sic). Upon checking again, I realised he had wet himself. I tried to wake him up but he did not respond so I called Eveline and she came over at 0900hrs."
The two women reportedly went through the contacts on Mugura's phone and called his wife who arrived in the afternoon at around 1300hrs with her sister-in-law.
Lunga reportedly tried to administer some sugar to the now deceased suspecting his sugar level was high but her efforts were helpless.
When the ambulance came, the crew told them that Mugura was dead and they should phone the police.
The inquest continues on July 9 2014.
