MDC-T spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora said his party's meeting yesterday finalised preparations of the party's elective congress pencilled for October.
The meeting, which adopted a template spelling out the how the congresses will be conducted, also resolved to bring back on board party officials who were either suspended or expelled on various charges, including corruption.
"Regarding everybody who had been dismissed from the MDC, they can participate in the congress provided they comply with the requirements," Mwonzora said.
"For example, the 23 Chitungwiza councillors were readmitted into the party on certain conditions, so their eligibility will depend on whether they qualify for the positions they aspire for or not".
In 2010 Tsvangirai fired more than 20 councillors in the dormitory town on allegations of corruption involving council stands.
Some of the councillors, including mayor Israel Marange, were arrested and convicted of graft.
But Mwonzora said they can still hold office in the party as long as they do not seek to be elected in the same capacities.
"The fact that they were arrested and convicted does not necessarily disqualify them but the fact is, if for instance one was charged of corruption in council, they cannot aspire to hold the same office," he said.
"Moreover, nominations for the various positions have not yet been done and when they eventually come, the party will vet each and every one of them."
