CHIWESHE - MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai's wife Elizabeth Macheka yesterday said her husband's feud with secretary-general Tendai Biti was against the wishes of the people who died while fighting for democratic change in Zimbabwe.
She said the two warring parties should unite to achieve the set goal.
Speaking during commemoration of the June 27 2008 election violence that saw many killed in Chiweshe, Macheka said there was no need for Biti and Tsvangirai to fight.
She said their fight was a betrayal of those who fought against the Zanu PF regime.
"It's painful, if you hear such things being said. You can't believe it happened, but I heard something similar to this in Zaka where people were petrol bombed," she said.
"It's terrifying to hear such things. I am happy that he [the youth representative] said such things should not happen again. It can only not happen if people are united."
Macheka said what makes Zanu PF remain united was that party leaders went to the liberation struggle together.
"They know they have people who died to liberate this country.
"So the MDC-T leadership, what makes you fight without realising why people died for the struggle? People died because they were looking forward to change," she said.
"Without being selfish, let's look at people and the graves of those who died in this struggle. I am pained by this, but I say let's unite. Unity will heal the wounds of those who lost loved ones. I say to the youths, you can leave those who want to go, but don't be violent."
Macheka, who drove Tsvangirai to and from Chiweshe in their Range Rover Sport vehicle, was speaking in reference to the on-going fight between Tsvangirai and Biti that has spilled into the courts saying there was no need for such if the fight was to be won.
Addressing the same gathering, Tsvangirai said Zanu PF had proved clueless in addressing the economy that was on a free-flow saying the government should be humble enough to admit that and engage them.
