NCA leader and constitutional law expert Lovemore Madhuku is showing dangerous ignorance of the law, MDC-T spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora said on Monday.
Mwonzora was reacting to reports that Madhuku, who is representing a group within the faction ridden MDC-T agitating for "regime change", had advised the now christened MDC-Renewal Team that a High Court interdict delivered by Justice Happious Zhou was of no effect.
Zhou last Friday ruled that any disciplinary action against MDC-T, Thamsanqa Mahlangu and national chairperson, Lovemore Moyo should be interdicted.
The Renewal Team, however, went ahead and expelled Tsvangirai and Moyo after finding them guilty of numerous offences.
"They have turned into a group of lawless lawyers, they defied the MDC constitution and now they are defying the High Court. Madhuku knows he lost the case, we understand their frustration at having lost both on the political and legal arenas.
"I am shocked at his lack of appreciation of the law and legal judgements. Their disregard of the law is astounding especially if one is a Professor of Law," said Mwonzora.
"Would he (Madhuku) have said the same things if the judgement had been in his favour?"
Mwonzora is among seven party leaders, along with the now expelled party leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, suspended by the Renewal group following a resolution of a national council meeting in April. The legality of the meeting is now to be decided by the High Court after members aligned to Tsvangirai lodged an application to have the gathering declared null and void.
The former Nyanga North legislator once again accused his erstwhile collegues of running a ruling Zanu PF party project. He said secretary general Tendai Biti, now a leading figure in the fight for the soul of the opposition party, was cited in the application contrary to Madhuku's assertions.
"They are a Zanu PF project, basically designed to de-brand Morgan Tsvangirai and the MDC. We will respect what the courts of the land said and their pronouncements are of no force," he said.
