A MARRIED Dangamvura man recently appeared in court for allegedly deliberately infecting his married "girlfriend" with HIV.

Appearing before Mutare magistrate Mrs Sekesayi Chiundura, the accused, Stephen Chiduku (40) of Area 15 section of Dangamvura, pleaded guilty to having deliberately infected Lucia Mupuko (43) with HIV during the period of their affair which started sometime in October last year to early this month.

"Mupuko tested negative last December when she went for cervical cancer tests. The tests require one to undergo an HIV test. After she tested negative she had been having unprotected sex with the accused behind the back of her husband only identified as Vasco.

"The two would have unprotected sex several times at different places, sometimes at the complainant's matrimonial home where during the process, Chiduku deliberately transmitted HIV to the complainant," said prosecutor, Mr Cuthbert Bhosha.

The case only came to light when Vasco started suspecting that Mupuko was cheating on him.

Subsequently, they went to the New Start Centre and after the tests, Vasco tested negative and Mupuko tested positive.

Mupuko then revealed she was having an extra-marital affair with Chiduku and that they had unprotected sex several times.

Chiduku was granted $50 bail and was remanded to (Thursday) for his verdict.
