An evil wicked Gutu man allegedly doused his 30-year-old girlfriend with 5L of paraffin and set her ablaze over her HIV status.
According to Chronicle, ZRP Masvingo has launched a manhunt for the unidentified man from Nerupiri area who attacked his girlfriend Violet Tahusechepi, 30, also from the same area before disappearing.
Relatives close to the matter say Tahusechepi was left alive with severe burns and was rushed to Gutu District Hospital by villagers but her condition deteriorated.
"She was referred to Masvingo General Hospital where she passed on a few hours after admission," said a relative who declined to be named.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula could not be reached for comment but fellow villagers said the attack was linked to Tahusechepi's HIV status.
A close neighbour said the man got incensed after discovering that Tahusechepip was HIV positive.
"On Saturday afternoon a man who is still at large proceeded to Tahusechepi's homestead where he found her at home. The two lovebirds greeted each other as usual before they got into the woman's bedroom hut," said the neighbour.
"We believe the man is from the same area but known by a few people here. While inside, the two reportedly got intimate. Later Tahusechepi went out to look for something and it was during her absence that the man saw a hospital card placed on a stool."
The neighbour said the man became curious and took the card. He discovered that Tahusechepi was HIV positive and was already on antiretroviral therapy (ART) which was confirmed by the tablets which were also on the stool," said the neighbour.
Another villager who identified himself as Rody said when Tahusechepi returned the man asked why she had not revealed her status to him to which she professed ignorance.
"This didn't go down well with the man and he got up as if wanting to leave while Tahusechepi remained frozen on the bed," said Rody.
"At that time the man saw a five-litre container filled with paraffin. Without warning he picked the container and emptied it all over Tahusechepi's body. He then took a match and set her alight."
The man is said to have fled leaving Tahusechepi screaming for help.
"She was attended to by villagers who then rushed her to hospital. The matter was reported to the police who attended the scene but are yet to arrest the suspect," said Rody.
