Gumbura gets the green light

Jailed RMG End Time Message Church leader Robert Martin Gumbura yesterday got the green light to contest the High Court's decision to deny him bail pending appeal.
Justice Joseph Musakwa yesterday allowed Gumbura's application for leave to appeal against denial of bail.
"It is ordered that leave be and is hereby granted for the applicant to appeal against the judgment in HC 231/14 to the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe," read the order.
Gumbura, who was jailed for 40 years on four counts of rape, has since appealed against his conviction and sentence by a Harare magistrate.
Yesterday the High Court allowed him to approach the Supreme Court challenging the bail ruling.
Dismissing Gumbura's bail application, Justice Musakwa held that there were no prospects of success in the main appeal against conviction and sentence.
Justice Musakwa ruled that Gumbura's chances of being acquitted on appeal were slim and that he should serve his sentence.
