Tsvangirai's supporters assault MDC-T councillors

Two MDC-T supporters - Yeukai Marauro (30) and Luckson Magege (39) - appeared in court on Wednesday facing allegations of assaulting councillors from their party after accusing them of establishing links with the rival MDC Renewal faction led by "axed" secretary-general Tendai Biti.
Marauro and Magege stand accused of beating up councillors Weston Masiya and Morris Chinwada during a Midlands North provincial meeting held on May 31 at the party offices in Kwekwe.
The State alleges that on the day Masiya and Chinwada arrived at the party offices to attend the provincial meeting. But the two in the company of five others were denied entry.
"The two were denied entry by the accused persons. When the complainants forced their way inside the accused persons then assaulted them with fists and open hands although they sustained no visible injuries," the State outline reads.
Marauro is alleged to have sunk her teeth into the shoulder of Chinwada during the assult while Masiya who was in a suit had his jacket reduced to rags.
Appearing before Resident Magistrate Taurai Manwere, the two pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded out of custody to July 23 on $20 bail each.

Masiya and Chinwada were accused of joining Mbizo Member of Parliament Settlement Chikwinya who is the Midlands leader of the Renewal team which expelled embattled leader Morgan Tsvangirai from the party after a disputed internal hearing.
