Zim Parliament chastised for importing cars

Parliament is breaching its own laws by importing vehicles for legislators at a time when the local motor industry is threatened with closure due to lack of business.
Briefing members of the portfolio committee on Industry, Buy Zimbabwe head, Munyaradzi Hwengwere, said the decision by lawmakers to buy their service vehicles from a dealer who was importing when Willowvale Mazda, a government vehicle assembler, was teetering on the brink of collapse was unfortunate.
Chairperson of the committee Ray Kaukonde said his committee would take the matter up with parliament authorities, especially in light of statements from Willowvale Motor Industries that they could have offered the legislators a similar deal had they been approached.
