Police say they have a critical role of reducing crime to pave way for a conducive environment that guarantees economic growth and prosperity.

Presenting a concept paper at the National Defence Staff College on Police's Perspective on Mobilisation and Employment of Zimbabwe Security Forces, ZRP Deputy Commissioner-General Josephine Shambare said although the country is enjoying peace, it continues to face the threats of interference and economic sabotage, which require the security forces to safe guard the nation's hard-won independence.

She said the Zimbabwe Republic Police has a strategic plan, Vision 2020, that is expected to reduce crime and achieve total confidence in the country's tourism sector by both local and foreign tourists.

"In view of this, the ZRP would consolidate both short and medium term strategies meant to improve on the detection of overall crime by 90%," she said.

Experts have identified corruption as one of the biggest impediments to the attainment of the fruits of the economic blue prints such as the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation, ZIMASSET.

Curbing corruption is one of the roles of law enforcement authorities.
