A BEER-drinking binge ended tragically in Nyanga when two villagers turned against each other in their drunken stupor resulting in the death of one of them over the weekend.
Manuel Manuwere Manyenga (38) of village 35 B Magamba under Chief Saunyama appeared before Nyanga magistrate Ignatio Mhene on Tuesday facing murder charges.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to July 24. The accused was also advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Charges against Manyenga are that on July 12 he was drinking traditional beer with the now deceased, Danmore Matengeni at Chisine homestead.
A misunderstanding ensued between the pair over a piece of land which is owned by the accused.
Following a heated exchange of words between the two, the accused decided to leave the drinking place to go to his homestead. But along the way, the deceased followed charging at Manyenga.
The court heard that a fight ensued between the two resulting in the accused withdrawing a knife and stabbing the deceased once on the left side of the rib cage and once on the left thigh. Matengeni bled profusely and died instantly.
