A  Ruwa man, who broke his daughter's bedroom door while the two were alone at home, before allegedly raping her, as part of a ritual to get rich, was on Wednesday denied bail by a Harare magistrate.

The accused person (44), whose name has been withheld to protect the victim's identity, appeared before magistrate Donald Ndirowei on Tuesday charged with two counts of rape.

Prosecutor Sharon Mashavira alleged that on a date unknown to the state, but in 2012, the complainant (20) was in the accused person's bedroom packing clothes.

Her father entered the bedroom and dropped a condom in front of her.

The court further heard that, sometime in March this year, the pair was left at home alone during the night.

While the two were seated in the lounge, the accused person told the complainant that he was wasting money on commercial sex workers and had decided to channel that money to the complainant.

On the same day at around midnight, the accused person broke the complainant's door with an unknown object to gain entry.

Once inside, he removed his trousers and proceeded to where the complainant was sleeping.

He got hold of his daughter, removed her pants and raped her once while putting on a condom.

The complainant struggled to free herself and consequently got injured on her right hand due to the scuffle.

After the misdemeanor, the accused person threatened the complainant with unspecified action if ever she divulged the matter to anyone.

He also told her that it was some form of a ritual to amass wealth and get rich, the court heard.

On the second count, the accused allegedly raped his daughter sometime in March when the two were alone at their family residence.

The accused promised the complainant that he would purchase a Toyota Vitz motor vehicle for her. She was also given $150 for her silence.

The complainant gathered courage and reported the matter to her mother on July 2.

A police report was filed, leading to the accused arrest.

The complainant was medically examined and the report will be produced in court as exhibit.

The accused is in custody and would be back in court on August 21.
