Zimbabwe told to 'sue MDC, US over sanctions'

Industrialist and former ZIMRE Holdings board member Mr Edmore Ndudzo says Zimbabwe should sue the United States government for its economic sanctions and members of the then united MDC who advocated for the embargo.

Mr Ndudzo said the lawsuit should seek to recover all funds belonging to Zimbabwean companies and individuals seized by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control.

He also encouraged Prosecutor-General Mr Johannes Tomana to go beyond the court challenge against European Union sanctions and ensure people and companies are compensated.

"It is acknowledged that a positive outcome to the current legal action against the EU will only strengthen further these below-mentioned lawsuits in your (Mr Tomana's) favour:

"Compensation for the prejudice now commonly estimated at US$42 billion which Zimbabwe suffered as a direct result of these heinous and evil sanctions by the US, EU and their allies.

"I am given to understand that this amount relates only to economic and financial prejudice suffered, and damage to or deterioration of major national infrastructure.

"This figure needs to be recomputed more accurately and comprehensively, and my prediction is that it will increase significantly."

He added: "Last, but by no means least, a lawsuit against the original and combined Movement for Democratic Change political party for having advocated (begged) these sanctions in the first place.

"Only those of its membership who joined the party after the imposition of these sanctions can be exonerated from this treacherous crime.

"I stand guided on this matter, but my layman view is that this act by the MDC was treasonous under both the old and new Constitutions."
