Newly appointed Zimpapers and Chronicle business editor Mernart Mafirakureva has died.
Mafirakureva was reportedly involved in an accident near Beatrice when driving to Harare on work related issues last night.
He was travelling with a colleague at Sunday News, Roberta Katunga who is said to be in stable condition.
Details are still sketchy but reports indicate that a bus encroached onto his lane resulting in a head on collision.
Colleagues have taken to social media to express shock and sadness.
"Mernart Mafirakureva was one of the finest journalists of his generation now he is gone. Only last week I was busy discussing with him about the projects that he wanted to finish and start. It's so sad that he is no more. May his soul rest in peace. I also wish my workmate Roberta Katunga a speedy recovery..." wrote Dumisani Nsingo of Sunday news on Facebook.
"Mernart Mafirakureva I'm truly gutted," Zimbabwe Independent and former colleague at NewsDay, Owen Gagare's comment.
