A POLICE officer sustained a wound just below the right knee and a dislocation on the right ankle after a conductor she wanted to arrest turned violent and attacked her last Wednesday.
The conductor, Michael Chimanyowa (25), who is employed by Tavonga Tours, appeared before Mutare magistrate Mrs Sekesayi Chiundura and was remanded to August 14.
Appearing for the State, Mr Cuthbert Bhosha said on July 16, Constable Beatrice Kurunzirwa was on patrol together with her colleagues, Constables Mugadza and Chikowore, in the city when she approached Michael accusing him of touting for passengers.
Mr Bhosha said Cst Kurunzirwa approached Michael and introduced herself to him.
"She explained the offence Michael was committing. When she was about to handcuff him, the accused pushed her onto the ground and she landed on her knees. She then grabbed Michael's belt, but he forcibly pushed her off.
"Constable Kurunzirwa was assisted by her colleagues Cst Mugadza and Cst Chikowore to arrest Michael and escorted him to Mutare Central Police Station," said Mr Bhosha.
