Former South African President, Thabo Mbeki, has reportedly been roped into President Robert Mugabe's succession race, amid reports of a Zanu-PF faction making overtures to the Pan-African Statesman, to endorse their leader, The Telescope News reported.

The contact person from Mbeki's foundation, Ambassador Dumisani Kumalo, could not be reached for comment, while The Telescope News awaits a response to communications made last week. Mbeki prefers to keep a low profile, while he continues to work for progressive change throughout the African continent.

High level sources inside Zanu-PF, have described the faction allegedly courting Mbeki's support to succeed Mugabe, as that one belonging to justice minister, Emmerson Mnangagwa. Mnangagwa is leaving no stone unturned, in his almost sure bid to become the next president of Zimbabwe. The scheming politician, has already reportedly struck a deal with the military to bolster his chances, while funding for his underwater campaign is said to be coming from China.

More details on the story to continue this week.
