The Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs says while it is committed to ensuring the process of realigning laws to the new constitution is expedited, other line ministries have not been forthcoming to assist in the exercise.
The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Ms Virginia Mabhiza, told the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs that there is need for co-operation from other line ministries to help in the exercise which should see the realignment of the new constitution with several pieces of legislation.
The chairperson of the committee, Ms Jessie Majome had asked why other line ministries have not been co-operative.
Ms Mabhiza added that they expect full assistance as a majority of those ministries employ legal advisers.
The government has identified over 400 pieces of legislation that require re-alignment to the new constitution.
Some will require amending, while others will need a re-visitation altogether in line with the new realities such as gender balances now mandatory in all boards.
