The Zanu PF politburo has met Wednesday at the party headquarters in the capital as preparations continue for the youth and women's league conferences to be held in August.

Items on the politburo agenda included preparations for the women and youth league conferences and the new electronic cards that are being rolled out.

The meeting also discussed the election of national executive members of the youth and women's league as the party heads for an elective congress at the end of the year.

The meeting takes place hot on the heels of the request by the women's league to elevate the First Lady Grace Mugabe to the position of national secretary for women's league.

The youth league and some senior members in the party have hailed the move saying it will help curb factionalism which is threatening to tear the party apart.

Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa was also given an opportunity to brief politburo members on the state of the implementation of the ZIM ASSET programme.

US$27 billion is required to fund ZIM ASSET which aims at uplifting the standards of life of the ordinary people through improvement of food security, infrastructure and service delivery as well as employment creation.
