Controversial MDC-T politician Job Sikhala says the late veteran nationalist Joshua Nkomo should have been first President of Zimbabwe.
Sikhala said Nkomo was however hounded out of the country at the height of the Gukurahundi massacres by President Robert Mugabe and his "blood thirsty" regime.
"As we are approaching the Heroes Day, Joshua Nkomo comes into my heart and mind. My father a peasant farmer from Gutu whose homestead became a permanent host of the ZANLA forces was a strong supporter of ZAPU and Joshua Nkomo," Sikhala said,
"My aunt who was married in Gwanda in Manama was a senior official of ZAPU. She died a sad death in 1983, after she was bayoneted by the Fifth Brigade during Gukurahundi.
"Nkomo couldn't attend the funeral because he went into exile when Mugabe's bloody thirsty regime wanted to assassinate him. He is a man who was supposed to be our first leader in Zimbabwe .
"He had gentle heart and a lovely persona. May our hero of heroes, Father Zimbabwe, Chibwechitedza wherever he is rest in eternal peace!!!!"
