TWO Gokwe men reportedly died while the other one went mentally unstable after picking "sacrifice" money which had been dumped by a certain businessman on a mountain.
Opheus Masocha, Alfred Nyika and Misheck Sibanda allegedly picked an undisclosed but large amount of United States dollars which had been dumped on a mountain near Chief Njelele's homestead in Gokwe North.
The money had been in the mountain for a couple of days and villagers were reportedly afraid to pick it up as they suspected it was for juju purposes.
Masocha, Nyika and Sibanda braced themselves for whatever circumstances would befall them and picked up the money. Life turned out to be good for them and they squandered the money.
A week later, Masocha and Nyika died under unclear circumstances while Sibanda became mentally challenged and his whereabouts are unknown.
Chief Njelele confirmed the incident saying: "It has always been known that people from different places including villagers come to the mountain for cleansing ceremonies. They dump different objects on the mountain and villagers know that they should not pick up anything from there.
"These three men, I guess they felt tempted by the money which we understand was dumped by a certain businessman. When I heard that they had picked the money, I called for them and they confirmed picking the money.
"Villagers were eager to see what was going to happen to the three men and by the time they died, most villagers were regretting why they had not picked the money as everything seemed going well for the men.
"It then turned out that it was a matter of time as Masocha and Nyika died on the same day under unclear circumstances."
Sibanda reportedly survived the "death penalty" but went mentally unstable and started running around half clothed talking to himself. He then disappeared from the village and no one knows his whereabouts including his wife.
Masocha's wife confirmed that his husband picked money from the mountain saying: "It is true, he picked the money, but I do not know what really caused his death."
