POLICE were last night still carrying out the identification process for the 13 people who perished in a road traffic accident involving a Harare-bound Zupco bus and a haulage truck along the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway on Monday night.

Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi yesterday confirmed that identification of the victims who died when the bus they were travelling in plunged into Mtuli River at the 22km peg along the Harare-Nyamapanda Highway was yet to be completed.

"We are conducting the identification process with the relatives of the deceased," Nyathi said.

Zupco spokesperson Farai Runyowa said the public transporter would assist in the burial of the accident victims.

"I am not at liberty to disclose what form of assistance we are going to offer, but we are going to give a helping hand," Runyowa said.

The bus, which had 43 passengers on board, veered off the road and fell into the riverbed after it was sideswiped by a Mujawo Transport International truck. At least 18 other passengers were seriously injured and were currently recovering at Parirenyatwa hospital.
