The legal representative for the 37 men from Madzibaba Ishmael Mufani's Johanne Masowe eChishanu sect charged with public violence successfully filed an application for bail conditions alteration before a Harare magistrate, Tendai Mahwe, yesterday.
Obey Shava requested for his clients to report to their respective residential police stations as opposed to the Law and Order offices.
Instead of reporting once a week at the Law and Order offices at Harare Central Police Station, they now have to report to their nearest police stations.
Prosecutor Sharon Mashavira was not opposed to the application, citing that the accused persons had pointed out to the state they were being verbally abused by some officers while reporting at Law and Order offices.
"The state is not opposed to the application. In our concession, we took into consideration that there is a letter in which the accused persons have raised further complaints to the abuse of office by some officers in reference to the Law and Order offices," she said.
"They have raised allegations that some of the officers in question are insulting the accused persons, calling them names among other allegations, when they (the accused persons) report at the station once a week."
The accused persons are out of custody on $100 each bail and had been ordered to report once every week at Harare Central Law and Order offices.
They are due back in court on August 27.
