40 hectares of sorghum and two hectares of seed maize have been destroyed by veld fire at Hurudza farm in Goromonzi.
The cause of the fire, which also destroyed pastures, is yet to be ascertained.
When the News crew visited the farm, activities were subdued as farm workers and the management were still counting losses.
Hurudza Farm Manager, Mustaph Sani said the fire was noticed just a few yards from the field but due to the windy weather the fire guards could not prevent the flames from leaping over while efforts to douse it were fruitless.
Farm owner and Mutoko North legislator, David Chapfika was still in shock and encouraged Zimbabweans to desist from starting fires.
While fire campaigns have already started in most parts of the country, forests, wildlife and other properties continue to be destroyed by veld fires with stakeholders insisting there is need for concerted efforts from everyone.
