A RUSAPE Delta Beverages employee had his head ripped off in an accident which also killed his workmate when a vehicle he was driving was involved in a head-on collision with a bus on Tuesday night.

The fatal accident happened at the 172km peg at Vudzi Farm along Harare- Mutare Highway when the Delta mechanic, Eugine Kanyandora, negligently overtook a vehicle at a sharp curve and collided with a Mutare-bound Senator bus.

Kanyandora and his workmate, Robert Matiashe died on the spot.

Rusape District police spokesperson, Sergeant Vimbai Nyatega, said Nyandora overtook a commuter omnibus at a sharp curve without noticing the bus which was very close.

"Kanyandora who was driving from Mutare to Rusape tried to overtake a commuter omnibus at a sharp curve. He did not notice the bus which was very close and coming from the opposite direction heading towards Mutare.

"The bus driver tried to avoid the accident by applying brakes and swerved to the extreme left, but it was too late. The vehicles met in a catastrophic head-on collision.

"Kanyandora and Matiashe died on the spot. No-one was injured on the bus and commuter omnibus. Kanyandora's vehicle was extensively damaged and is a complete write-off," said Sgt Nyatega.

She urged motorists to exercise extreme caution and to adhere to road rules and regulations to avoid loss of lives.

"As the police we continue to urge the motoring public to exercise extreme caution on the road to save lives. We also warn them against reckless driving such as over taking on prohibited places like sharp curves," said Sgt Nyatega.
