Police say theft and armed robbery cases are on the increase in churches with three churches having lost close to US$50000 to robbers in the last two weeks.
The ZRP urged the populace to bank their money or risk losing it to robbers, following three cases of robbery and theft of church money in the past two weeks.
"The cases are on the increase and we have witnessed three such cases where one church in Harare lost US$30000, while the other US$9500 while counting their offerings. In Zvishavane, they lost a substantial amount. So please Zimbabweans are urged to bank their money," said ZRP Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi.
Meanwhile, Chief Superintendent Nyathi has assured visitors and exhibitors to the Harare Agricultural Show that they have deployed enough manpower for security while parents have been urged to be vigilant in ensuring their kids' safety.
"We have put in place enough officers to cater for crime and especially being on the lookout for lost kids but we also urge parents to ensure their safety and not leave them in the custody of siblings," he added.
To date, more than 400 cases of robbery have been recorded in the first half of the year with police recording 316 cases of armed robbery between January and May 2014, compared to 230 cases received during the same period in 2013.
