VP Mujuru commends Harare Agricultural Show exhibitions

Vice President Joice Mujuru has hailed the quality of products being exhibited at the 104th edition of the Harare Agricultural Show and commended efforts by farmers in contributing towards sustainable economic growth.

Mujuru, who had a chance to tour several stands at the agricultural show, commended farmers for their efforts in improving the country's food security and stressed government's commitment to develop a vibrant agriculture value chain.

Vice Mujuru said this year's theme, which is ‘Sustaining and Transforming Agricultural Growth,' is in line with the objectives of government's economic blueprint ZIM ASSET in realising food security, enhancing productivity and ensuring inclusive economic growth.

"Being a farmer, l was particularly impressed with the livestock and tobacco sections. It seems people are aware of what should be achieved. Under the ZIM ASSET, we have committed ourselves to improve the living standards of our people," said Mujuru.

Mujuru said she was impressed with the level of participation at the livestock section where there was an increase in terms of entries from less than 300 last year.

Vice President Mujuru said there is need for continued investment in research and training to improve productivity in the tobacco sub-sector.

Meanwhile, exhibitors say there are impressed with the level of enquiries and interests shown by potential partners.

"We are delighted by the level of enquires and business generated. It is our desire to contribute to the growth of the agricultural sector," said one exhibitor.

The 2014 Harare Agricultural Show, which runs from the 20th to the 30th of August, will be opened officially by President Robert Mugabe on Friday.
