The 2013/14 edition of the National Journalism and Media Awards (NJAMA) has been set for October 17 in Harare, the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) has announced.
ZUJ annually hosts the media awards to reward professional and ethical journalism.
The Union's Secretary General Foster Dongozi said that this year's edition will run under the theme ‘Women make news', taking cognisance of the role the media can play in promoting gender equality.
"We are happy to have retained most of our traditional sponsors and welcome new partners on board," said Dongozi.
"The Union is extremely grateful for this support, especially when considering the current economic challenges. The sponsors' commitment to strengthening the media and developing the nation is phenomenal."
He said that ZUJ is soon going to publicize this year's categories, adding that the prizes will be unveiled at the dinner gala.
"In line with our theme, we have confirmed the Minister of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development, Cde Oppah Muchinguri as the Guest of Honour. We are looking forward to engaging her on a number of our programmes, including the campaign against sexual harassment in the media, the draft gender and media protocol and the need for gender policies in media organisations.
