Army stands in way of MDC-T and state power

MDC-T says the army is the party's greatest stumbling block to taking over power from Zanu PF as the biased force would never allow regime change.

"Even within the context of holding a free and fair plebiscite that will pass the test of legitimacy, the Zimbabwean political matrix is intricately connected to the military and security establishment," said MDC-T Harare spokesperson Obert Gutu.

"Without obtaining a buy-in from these critical organs of the political infrastructure and superstructure, we can only dream about obtaining state power. That's the cold, hard fact that we have to contend ourselves with."

Gutu said, "Our military and security establishment is composed of professionals and as such, we have to re - assure them, at all relevant times, that we are genuine and committed patriots who are solely interested in establishing an egalitarian and developmental Republic where no citizen will be unduly victimised on account of their political and/or ideological convictions."
