ZANU-PF Bulawayo youth league member Fundisani Dewa (31) had theft charges involving $6,500 and a laptop worth $800 withdrawn against him by his Denmark-based girlfriend who filed an affidavit to withdraw the charges, the Radio dialogue reported.
Dewa, had not been asked to plead to the charges when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa.
His girlfriend Grace Bellodi of Queens Park in Bulawayo who is based in Denmark said she was withdrawing the case since Dewa who was out of custody on $350 bail promised to settle the amount he owed.
The magistrate then granted the withdrawal of the charges against Dewa but warned Bellodi that once she withdraws the charges the court will never re-accept filing of charges on the same case.
The prosecutor Kudakwashe Jaravaza to the court that sometime in October 2010, the complainant Bellodi who is based in Denmark, was introduced to Dewa by a friend at a party in Trenance and they later became friends.
Bellodi then later indicated to Dewa that she intended to buy a vehicle.
On October 29 2010, Bellodi instructed one Darnabas Chawanzwa to withdraw and give Dewa cash amounting to $6,500 meant for the purchase of the vehicle. Dewa received the money and allegedly converted it to his own use.
Bellodi returned from Denmark in 2011 and discovered that Dewa had not purchased any vehicle. Dewa also failed to return the $6 500 Bellodi had sent him for the purchase of the car.
In the second count, it was alleged that in August 2011, Dewa went to Bellodi's place of residence and took a silver Apple Macintosh laptop under the pretext that he was going to charge the battery and has failed to return it ever since.
The gadget worth $800 was not recovered.
The matter was reported to the police in 2011 but did not go to court under unclear circumstances until the docket was reopened this year resulting in Dewa appearing in court.
