A Harare man has been sentenced to nine years in prison after he was found in possession of a pangolin.
Frank Mutanha was convicted on his own plea and Harare magistrate, Rekina Dzikiti slapped him with nine year sentence after she found no special circumstances.
Mutanha was nabbed as he was trying to sell the special animal.
Pangolins are classified under the endangered animals and the law provides for a mandatory sentence of nine years for anyone convicted of illegal possession of the animal.
Soon after the sentence, three of Mutanha's relatives broke down in grief in what appeared to be shock triggered by the long jail sentence.
